Chinese New Year

Abdulrahman Kanoo School (ARKS) proudly celebrated the Chinese New Year, marking the Year of the Snake- the third consecutive celebration since the commencement of the schools opening. This event exemplified our commitment to fostering inclusion, diversity, and respect for various cultures, alongside promoting kindness within our school community- very much the schools core values and that of our late Founder: Mr. Abdulrahman Jasim Kanoo.

The celebration was significantly enhanced through our collaboration with the Confucius Institute at the University of Bahrain (UOB). We were honored to host His Excellency, the Chinese Cultural Attaché, alongside our esteemed Trustees, underscoring the importance of our partnerships. Exchanging gifts, the VIP’s were treated to a special event put on in the schools Innovation Lab. This programme, run by ARKS Mandarin Department, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute- University of Bahrain (CI-UOB), saw a variety of stations and opportunities for the students to show their talents in calligraphy, singing and Chinese traditional craft. Many students, donning a range of traditions outside, is a testament to our parents for embracing this part of their curriculum. As the only school in the Kingdom offering mandatory Mandarin instruction from Reception to Year 9, ARKS is dedicated to providing our students with invaluable opportunities that bridge connections between Bahrain and China.

The biggest compliment for the day was being told how touched the Chinese Embassy visitors were during the visit- “so lovely to hear the students speaking Chinese and engaged with our culture. Very emotional moment for many of our staff present”.
