Abdulrahman Kanoo School Diyar (ARKS) has much to celebrate this week, and we are proud of our school community- both parents and students, engaging in the schools’ initiatives that support impact within our community and beyond. This week has seen ARKS students actively engaging in sustainability efforts. Collecting 450 kilograms of plastic, paper, and cardboard since late August is a significant achievement. This initiative not only raises awareness about waste management but also teaches students the importance of their individual and collective impact on the environment.
“The comparison to the weight of a Nile crocodile effectively illustrates the magnitude of their efforts, making it more relatable and impactful. Collaborating with the Simple Bottle project further enhances their understanding of sustainability and aligns perfectly with the school’s core values of AEKEDU.” notes Mr. Nicky V Shaji- ARKS Building Maintenance Supervisor.
The students’ efforts in collecting waste align perfectly with today’s planting session under the OIC Sustainability Curriculum. Both activities emphasise the importance of environmental stewardship and hands-on learning. By participating in the planting session, the Infant School students are not only contributing to the local ecosystem but also reinforcing the lessons learned from the waste collection initiative. This holistic approach fosters a deeper understanding of sustainability, encouraging students to see the interconnectedness of their actions— from reducing waste to enhancing their environment through planting.
