Abdulrahman Kanoo School (ARKS) hosted, for its third consecutive year, the Diabetes Mobile Unit. Established in 2012, this joint project between the Bahrain Diabetes Society (BDS) and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Medical University of Bahrain and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Manama. The project aims to empower children to adopt a health-conscious mindset and lead a healthy, balanced lifestyle to minimise the risk of developing obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
This innovative educational programme was shared with our Yr 2 students, with the aim to raise awareness about diabetes and promote healthy lifestyle choices among young learners. During the visit, the RCSI Bahrain nursing Students engaged with students through interactive activities, hands-on demonstrations, and informative discussions. The two groups participated in learning the importance of nutrition, exercise, and the management of diabetes.
“The visit was an excellent opportunity for our students to learn about diabetes in a fun and engaging way. By educating them early, we hope to instill healthy habits that will last a lifetime. The programme included storytelling sessions that made the information relatable, as well as creative activities where students created posters to express what they learned. The team also held a Q&A session, allowing students to ask questions and clarify their understanding of diabetes.” noted ARKS Principal- Mr. Steve Lewis. “At ARKS we are committed to promoting health and wellness within our community, and partnerships with organisations like RCSI Bahrain and the Diabetes Mobile unit play a crucial role in achieving this goal.”
